Gourmet Traveller WINE January 2008
2005 Canobolas-Smith Chardonnay, Orange, $40.

Very restrained and youthful with terrific underlying complexity; a more reserved vintage for this maker. While great now, it promises more with time. Continues to unfold in the glass. Five Stars 95/100 Drink to 2015.

2005 Canobolas-Smith Reserve Shiraz, Orange, $35.

...Continuing with reds other than pinot noir, we have the superb Cote Rotie taste-alike, the 2005 Canobolas-Smith Reserve Shiraz. This fragrant, spicy, silky wonder of a wine is definitely for the Francophiles, but the Aussies will eventually catch up. (Gold)

Gourmet Traveller WINE November 2007

Canobolas-Smith Strawhouse Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Orange $A20. Of Murray Smith's Canobolas Smith wines, the more experimental drops made from grapes from neighbouring vineyards within the Orange region carry the Strawhouse moniker. This complex, savoury dry white is almost unrecognisable as either a sauvignon or semillon: it has a richness and complexity way beyond a simple varietal wine. It's been aged in old, second-hand barrels and, with some time in the bottle, the abundant yet finely honed flavours are at their peak. ...Plus it's an absolute bargain.

Gourmet Traveler WINE 2005
2002 SHINE Reserve Chardonnay was reviewed in the June/July 2005 edition of Gourmet Traveler WINE: “ 94/100 Murray Smith is making extremely complex, exciting chardonnay that deserves wider renown. This is a beautiful, mature wine, full yellow in colour and with rich aromas of hazelnut, butter and toast. It is mouth-filling yet fine.”
